M25 weekend closure; concerns over traffic chaos.
A warning for drivers and riders ahead of this weekend. National Highways has announced it is to shut the M25 in both directions between Junction 10 at Wisley and Junction 11 at the Chersey Interchange over the weekend. In an unprecedented move, the Surrey stretch of the UK's busiest motorway will shut down at 9 p.m. on Friday, March 15 until 6 a.m. on Monday, March 18.
Diversions will be in place; however, motorists are being warned of severe delays when the five-mile stretch of the motorway closes. It's the first planned daytime shutdown since the M25 opened.

IAM RoadSmart Director of Policy and Standards Nicholas Lyes said: “While this is essential work and plenty of notice has been given, this section of the M25 is one of the busiest stretches of motorway in the country. There is a risk that drivers who are unaware of the closure will use unfamiliar roads as a diversion. This can create all sorts of road safety risks, particularly on more rural routes. Our advice is to carefully plan your detour—not just to hope for the best from your sat-nav on the day. Try to familiarise yourself with the route before you leave and allow for plenty of time to be added to your journey to reduce stress levels behind the wheel.”
