Amber weather warning issued for UK drivers ahead of Storm Claudia
Storm Claudia is set to bring severe weather to Britain, with up to six inches of rain expected within just 12 hours and concerns over 70mph wind gusts and flooding.
The Met Office has issued two amber rain warnings for tomorrow, covering parts of central England and South Wales. Both warnings will be in effect from 12pm until midnight.
IAM RoadSmart Director of Policy and Standards Nicholas Lyes said: “Storm Claudia is expected to bring a lot of rainfall to parts of England and Wales on Friday, with flooding possible. Motorists should expect poor visibility with a lot of surface water and spray, which may overwhelm tyre tread and subsequently reduce grip. We encourage drivers to slow down, increase the gap between your vehicle and the one in front and be prepared for possible aquaplaning. It also stands to reason that where there is a flooded road, drivers should not attempt to navigate through the water and instead safely find an alternative route.”
