REACTION: IAM RoadSmart responds to extended pub opening times
IAM RoadSmart Director of Policy and External Communications Nicholas Lyes said: “England will have a tricky game to navigate at the Azteca Stadium, but at home late night drinks and extended opening hours could equate to a lethal Monday morning on the roads. While many fans will want to celebrate if England get a result, or drown their sorrows if they do not, our message is simple: if you’re drinking, don’t drive. Plan your journey home in advance, use public transport, a taxi, or a designated driver. It’s vital that people make sure they are legally fit to drive the morning after and it’s important to remember that the only thing that gets alcohol out of the system is time – a strong coffee or big breakfast won’t speed up the process.
If in doubt, leave the car at home. Too many lives are still being shattered by drink-driving, and no football match is worth taking that risk.”
