Road Safety charity celebrates achieving ‘Investing in Volunteers’ status
IAM RoadSmart announces its first Investing in Volunteers award
Britain’s leading road safety charity IAM RoadSmart has been awarded the prestigious Investing in Volunteers award.
The charity, which has around 5,000 volunteers across the country that help to deliver its driver and rider courses, received the accolade in recognition of volunteer management.
It is currently the only standard that focuses on volunteers, and is based on six quality areas:
- Vision for volunteering
- Planning for volunteers
- Volunteer inclusion
- Recruiting and welcoming volunteers
- Supporting volunteers
- Valuing and developing volunteers
Nicola Smith, IAM RoadSmart People and Culture Director said: “We are incredibly proud of our volunteer service, and it is fantastic to be recognised by Investing in Volunteers. We hope this encourages more people to consider giving their time to this worthwhile experience. Our volunteers are the lifeblood of what we do; without them, we simply wouldn't be able to achieve our mission of making roads safer for everyone in the UK. Our volunteers have a real passion for road safety, and they work tirelessly to make this passion a reality.”
The Chair of UKVF (the Awarding Body) said: “UKVF is delighted to announce IAM RoadSmart’s successful achievement of this Award, they have demonstrated a real commitment to volunteering, and proven that their volunteer management policies and procedures meet nationally recognised standards.”
Various roles are available for volunteers, including group Chairs, Observers and Examiners. There are also other roles available, such as running websites and social media accounts, photography, first aid, and acting as ambassadors for the cause.
